Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) - “Danaë 1907”. Gesigneerd in de plaat. - 40 x 38 cm.

Gustav Klimt: “Danaë, 1907”. Signed on the plate. Authorized color offset lithograph, produced with premium matte (non-reflective) finish and with high color intensity. Condition: the work is in excellent condition. Format: 40 x 38 cm. This artwork is Danaë painted by Gustav Klimt between 1907 and 1908. The artwork depicts the Greek myth in which Zeus visits Danaë in the form of a golden shower. The painting is known as one of Klimt’s most erotic works from his “golden period.” Danaë is depicted in a foetal position, symbolizing the fertility the god receives. The original masterpiece is housed in a private collection in Vienna. Egon Schiele was an important figurative painter of the 20th century from Austria. He produced an abundance of lively paintings and drawings, the vast majority of which depict the naked female form. As a protegé of Gustav Klimt, Schiele became known for his raw, psychological intensity and bold portrayals of the human form. His work broke with the ornamental sensuality of the Vienna Secession and introduced a radical honesty that explored vulnerability, sexuality, and the complexity of human emotions. Schiele’s distinctive style is characterized by expressive line work, distorted anatomy, and a striking use of color and space. His portraits and nudes, often confronting in their gaze and posture, reveal an unbridled exploration of desire and identity. The artist’s ability to capture both physical tension and psychological depth sets him apart from his contemporaries and confirms him as a central figure in the transition from Symbolism to Expressionism. Today Schiele’s works rank among the most sought-after on the art market. Original drawings and paintings regularly fetch prices of several million dollars at major auction houses. Paintings such as Houses with Colorful Laundry (1914) have brought in more than 40 million dollars, while his expressive figure drawings are highly valued by collectors around the world.
