Eastern Mediterranean, Judaea, Hasmonean Kingdom. This pendant features an ancient bronze coin of the type traditionally known as the widow's mite, set in a 14K yellow gold bezel with an attached bail loop for suspension. Coins of this type were struck in Judaea during the Hasmonean period, most commonly under Alexander Jannaeus, circa 103 to 76 BC, and are associated with the biblical account of the widow's offering in the Gospels of Mark and Luke. The coin displays a dark patina consistent with age, and the modern gold mount is 14K. The bezel setting allows the coin to be worn while both faces remain visible. Item # 204296
