Hastings, Minnesota. Thorne's Bank. 1863 $2. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20.

Hastings, Minnesota. Thorne's Bank. 1863 $2. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20. No. 2494. Plate A. A noted rarity from Minnesota representative of a short-lived bank. Thorne's Bank was first organized in 1863 with a capital of $27,500 and ultimately became the Merchants National Bank of Hastings (Charter# 1538) in 1865. Here we may observe the distinctive "Cherubs and Seated Dollars" vignette readily in encountered in Remainder form on some notes from Vermont while a portrait of a horse can be seen at right opposite an unidentified portrait our cataloger in 2008 believed to be the likes of John L. Thorne at left. These notes were ultimately redeemed by the Merchants National Bank and an estimated $622 in notes were left unredeemed by 1869 per Hewitt. Very rare regardless of grade level and the first note we have offered on this bank absent cancellations since 2008. Estimate: $600 - $900. Provenance: From the Caine Collection. Earlier ex. Eric P. Newman Collection. Hewitt Plate Note.

Estimate:£269.16
