Haviland & Co

HAVILAND & CO. • Old fruit bowl on a pedestal • Limoges porcelain • Maison D. Bourgeois – Le Gerriez • 19th century An elegant French tableware piece, a witness to the refinement of the late 19th century. Discover this charming footed fruit bowl in Limoges porcelain, attributed to the prestigious Haviland & Co. manufactory, whose origins go back to 1842. Its delicately flared silhouette rests on a slender central foot, while the chamfered edge, adorned with relief motifs evoking basketry, lends it a particular elegance. The bowl is decorated with a delicate polychrome floral motif, consisting of branches and flowers in shades of bluish gray, powder pink, and brown. The motifs, harmoniously distributed inside and outside, extend onto the foot and bear witness to the decorative taste of the era. A double historical mark Under its foot lie two particularly interesting old marks: * The green H & Co. mark, associated with the Limoges Haviland & Co. manufacture, for which this variant is generally dated to 1876–1889. * The red-brown Maison D. Bourgeois – Le Gerrieux Successeur, Paris, Rue Saint-Honoré, attesting to its connection with a Parisian commercial house of the period. These two marks place this bowl within the history of French table arts of the late 19th century. A charming decorative piece Once intended to embellish tables and sideboards, footed bowls today add a touch of timeless elegance to our interiors. Displayed on a festive table, an antique sideboard, a console, or simply as a centerpiece, this piece will appeal to lovers of antique porcelain and the French art de vivre.
