Ca. 250 - 100 BC. A large cast bronze fitting depicting the abduction of Ganymede by Zeus in the guise of an eagle. The nude youth is suspended before the eagle's body, with his right arm raised above his head and his left hand resting on his hip. The eagle has a hooked beak and outstretched wings, with overlapping rows of finely incised feathers extending to the tips. Ganymede's wavy hair falls to his shoulders, and his legs hang freely against the bird's tail feathers. A curved tubular attachment projects from the reverse.
