HELLENISTIC GOLD AMPHORA-SHAPED PENDANT WITH GARNET CABOCHON

Ca. 350 - 200 BC. A gold pendant in the shape of an amphora, with a pear-shaped garnet cabochon set in a plain gold collet flanked by projecting granules and framed by symmetrical handles of twisted gold wire, each terminating in an inward spiral. A cylindrical neck with raised collars connects the body to a suspension loop, with a granulated knop at the base. Size: 22mm x 13.5mm; Weight: 1.7g Provenance: Private London collection of an art professional; acquired on the UK and European art markets between 1980s to early 2000s.
