Rare 18th-century silver Communion cup – Hendrik Kamerlingh II – Amsterdam, 1743 An exceptionally large and museum-worthy silver Protestant Communion cup (hollowware), skillfully hand-forged in the Dutch Republic during the early 18th century. The base bears four exceptionally well-preserved, deeply struck guild marks: City mark: The coat of arms of Amsterdam (three Saint Andrew's crosses under the imperial crown) Master mark: 'HK' for the prominent Amsterdam silversmith Hendrik Kamerlingh II (active 1730–1776) Date letter: O for the year 1743 Fineness and duty mark: The crowned Dutch lion Height: 14 cm Weight: 285 grams Silver content: First quality (934/1000) In reasonably good authentic condition for its venerable age of almost 300 years. The profiled stand ring shows along the lower edge some perfectly normal signs of use, irregularities/dents from centuries of being set down). The upper rim has a small pit. No restorations or cracks. A rare piece of Amsterdam's cultural-historical heritage for the serious collector.
