All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Henri Matisse (1869-1954) - Nuit de Noël

This work is a reproduction of Henri Matisse's Nuit de Noël (1952). The work is one of the finest examples of the famous papiers découpés (cut papers) by Matisse. The artist created these compositions by cutting shapes directly from sheets of paper previously painted with gouache in bright, flat colors, then assembling them on a support. The vertical arched structure clearly recalls the design of a stained-glass window, a medium to which Matisse devoted much of his late life (as with the Chapel of Vence). Dimensions 50 x 100 cm, vertical format. Professional and secure packaging.
