Herkimer Diamond Ring / new Set in 925 Sterling Silver New and unworn 11.2 mm x 8.3 mm Weight: 3.14 g Ring size: U 59 UK R US 8.7 Fr 19 Internal diameter 18.8 mm Herkimer Diamonds are double-terminated quartz crystals that were discovered in exposed dolomite outcrops in and around Herkimer County, New York, and in the Mohawk River Valley in the USA. They are not diamonds; the name “diamond” owes to their clarity and the well-formed faces. Since the first deposits were in the village of Middleville or in the town of Little Falls, the crystal is also referred to as Middleville Diamond or Little Falls Diamond. Herkimer Diamonds gained wide notoriety after workers in the late 18th century discovered them in large quantities while mining dolomite in the Mohawk River Valley. Geologists discovered exposed dolomite in the outcrops of Herkimer County and began mining there, which led to the designation “Herkimer Diamond.” Double-terminated quartz crystals are found worldwide. Shipping as insured registered mail.
