Original tourist poster from 1948 by Herman Verbaere ('signed in the plate at the bottom left) that depicts Belgium's art treasures of Bruges, with Hans Memling's Sint Ursula Shrine in the foreground and the many architectural attractions in the background. Print run: J. De Grève & Co, Brussels. Published by the National Company of the Belgian Railways (NMBS) Condition A-; intact, with a very beautiful color palette. Shipping: rolled in a sturdy tube with Bpost track & trace. Herman Verbaere (Wetteren, March 13, 1905 – Zottegem, August 26, 1993) was a remarkably versatile artist, known for his work as painter, draftsman, watercolorist, lithographer, and designer of stamps. Verbaere created numerous watercolors and painted landscapes of the Flemish villages along the Scheldt, on the coast, in Zeeland, and in the Kempen. With his illustrations and posters, he gained international recognition and won various prizes for, among others, his Flemish landscape posters commissioned by the Belgian Railways. Verbaere was known for his notable brushwork, his strong sense of composition, and his masterful use of color.
