Magnificent vintage Hermès silk scarf titled "France", designed by artist Christiane Vauzelles in 1962. Special edition. Hand-rolled. Made in France. Hermès Paris logo, absence of composition label and copyright C - too old. "Edited for the inaugural crossing of the France liner." Le France, by the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique or French Line, is an iconic ocean liner, dear to the hearts of the French, which made its first crossing on February 3, 1962. It was the largest ship in the world at the time of its completion. Its end was announced during its 202nd voyage when President Giscard d'Estaing declared in 1974 the end of subsidies. Sold in the onboard shop of the liner during the first crossing." Collector. The scarf is about to celebrate its 64th anniversary. According to Arfon's Dictionary of Art Squares, it is considered quite rare and sought after. Very good overall vintage condition despite some signs of wear, given its age (see last photo). Will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number.
