Historic 1949 Jackie Robinson

Historic 1949 Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Larry Doby, and Don Newcombe autographed baseball - "Robinson All-Stars" barnstorming team. Worth "Official League" baseball has been signed on the side panel by Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Don Newcombe, and Larry Doby. This historic group represents the first generation of African American stars who integrated Major League Baseball. Robinson and Doby famously broke the long-standing color barrier for each League in 1947; Campanella and Newcombe helped in their own right furthering the rapid emergence of black players as dominant stars in the Majors. The date "10/15/49" is written at bottom of the signed panel (in unknown hand) which was roughly (1) week after that years' World Series had concluded. Period newspaper accounts relay that Robinson and the other (3) players were traveling the country playing exhibition games as part of the "Jackie Robinson All-Stars" team. On Friday October 14th they played a Southern Negro All-Star team in Greensboro and on the 16th they met a similar group at Ponce de Leon Park in Atlanta. Two additional signatures are not decipherable but presumably relate in some capacity. Ball is soiled throughout with scattered wear and a toned clear coat was applied over the autographed areas.
