HÖK (1984) - The Girl With The Apple - Square Extra Large XXXL

CONCEPT OF THE WORK - The Girl With The Apple (Unique work) What would happen if one of the most famous figures in the history of art discovered the universe of the great tech brands? This is HÖK’s original proposal in The Girl With The Apple, a work that transforms the iconic Lady with the Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer into an unexpected protagonist of contemporary Pop Art. The young woman appears holding a bitten apple, a clear reference to Apple, one of the most influential and recognizable brands in the world. The gesture, seemingly simple, hides an ironic reflection on the enormous power that large technology companies have acquired in our society, to the point of becoming true icons of contemporary culture. HÖK plays with the idea that the protagonist is symbolically devouring this tech giant, momentarily reversing the relationship between humans and the brands that dominate a large part of our daily life. The scene is surrounded by a genuine universe of popular references, where Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Wonder Woman, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Captain America and Superman appear, among other characters. They all coexist in a composition full of cultural wink, creating an encounter between different generations, from the great masters of painting to superheroes of comics, music and entertainment. The intense colors, graffiti, splashes and overlays give the work the urban energy characteristic of HÖK’s artistic language. The contrast between the serene gaze of Vermeer’s young woman and the apparent visual chaos around her constitutes one of the most interesting aspects of the composition. With this reinterpretation, the artist connects more than three centuries of visual history and asks how the great icons evolve, change meaning, and continue to be part of our collective memory. An original work that combines classical art, Pop Art, humor and critique of technological consumerism, inviting the viewer to discover new references in every gaze. A piece where past and present meet to tell an entirely new story. ──────────────────────── HÖK ARTIST HÖK Artist’s works are part of private collections in more than 20 countries and have been exhibited in art galleries in Spain and Europe.
