HOLL — “BAD COIN” HOLL. Bad coin. Paris, published by Duclaux, 21 Place du Château-d’Eau; distributed by Madre, 20 Rue du Croissant, [circa 1870–1871]. A political caricature depicting a gigantic ten-centime coin bearing the inscription “EMPIRE FRANÇAIS.” The imperial eagle is reimagined as an anthropomorphic figure with a long mustache, a satirical allusion to Napoleon III and the fall of the Second Empire. A few creases, small tears, and marginal damage; slight foxing; old handwritten note in the upper margin.
