Hoto - Wall plate (2) - Porcelain

Wonderful pair of festooned plates in Imari-style Japanese porcelain, made by the HOTO factory (Hotta Yu Shoten & Co.) between 1920 and 1940. The traditional decoration combines cobalt blue underglaze, a vivid iron red, and rich accents in fine gold. The center features a basket of blooming peonies, surrounded on the rim by asymmetric cartouches with motifs of birds and foliage. Very good overall condition. No cracks or chips.
