HÜRLIMANN (Martin) — Asia: Its Landscapes, Peoples, and Civi - Lot 128

HÜRLIMANN (Martin) — Asia: Its Landscapes, Peoples, and Civilizations HÜRLIMANN (Martin). — Asia: Its Landscapes, Peoples, and Civilizations. Atlantis Collection. Paris, Les Éditions Braun & Cie, [circa 1950]. Large quarto, publisher’s full beige cloth binding, title L’ASIE embossed in red on the spine. Abundant black-and-white and color photographs. A beautiful photographic work on Asia by the Swiss photographer and publisher Martin Hürlimann (1897–1984), founder of the cultural magazine *Atlantis* and particularly known for his large, illustrated travel books. The book offers a broad geographical and cultural overview of the Asian continent—including the Near and Middle East, the Arabian Peninsula, India, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, and more—combining historical and ethnographic studies with a wealth of photographic material. The photographs are the volume’s main attraction. Some are reproduced full-page and in color, such as the spectacular interior view of a temple in Bangkok; others, in black-and-white heliogravure, document landscapes, people, monuments, and traditional architecture. The views of Sanaa and Shibam in Yemen, as well as the Arabian caravans visible in your photographs, are particularly striking. Very fine copy. Beige cloth binding that appears particularly fresh in the photographs, with only very slight signs of wear. Sturdy spine, well-preserved red lettering. Clean corners. Interior is very fresh and clean; paper has retained its brightness; black-and-white photographs are high-contrast, and color plates are vibrant. Copy without dust jacket.
