We are putting up for auction an Iconic Design Lot: Lounge Chair (Model 670) with its coordinated ottoman (Model 671), conceived in 1956 by the famous American studio Charles & Ray Eames. Produced in Italy in the 1970s by ICF under official Herman Miller license, this specimen stands out for the rarer combination, Santos Palissandro shells paired with brown leather cushions original from the era. Design and History: The Noblest Essence of Palissandro Present in MoMA New York's permanent collection, the Lounge Chair has redefined the very concept of the high-end club chair: Architecture of Comfort: The chair’s permanently reclined seat and the combination of the cushioned supports were designed to offer a total relaxation experience, enfolding the body with the softness of a well-used “baseball glove.” Lot Conditions: The chair appears in excellent condition for its era, structurally sound with normal signs of age, predominantly on the exterior wood shell and on the edges with minor defects on the backrest, which do not diminish the chair’s beauty. Shells in Santos Palissandro Original Leather Upholstery: Unlike many reupholstered examples, this lot retains its original brown dark leather upholstery from the era, preserved and cared for with skill. The leather is soft, elastic, perfectly cleaned, and free of tears or compromising wear, preserving that unique and elegant vintage patina, and the color is very rare and hard to find on the market. Aluminum and Foundry: The aluminum cast bases with details are stable and, after careful cleaning and polishing, look brilliant again. Marks on the bases of the seat and the ottoman with code 670-671/B embossed in relief on the aluminum casting of the bases, a distinctive sign of the foundry matrices of ICF. Dimensions Chair: Width: 82 cm Depth: 87 cm Height: 82 cm Ottoman: Width: 65 cm Depth: 55 cm Height: 41 cm The Designers: Charles and Ray Eames Charles (1907-1978) and Ray (1912-1988) Eames are considered the fathers of American modern design. Their mastery of shaping and bending molded wood gave life to timeless icons, showcased in the world’s major museums. The Manufacturers: ICF and Herman Miller ICF: A historic Milanese manufacturer that produced, under official Herman Miller license for Europe, the historical editions of Eames projects, applying the proverbial craftsmanship of Italian upholstery and woodworking. Herman Miller: U.S. giant and original publisher of the Eames works from 1956 to today. Shipping: The chair will be carefully packaged and mounted on a custom-made wooden crate crafted specifically for the chair; the tracking number will be provided with the shipment to follow the crate in real time.
