Icon - Our Lady of Chernihiv - Wood

Splendid Russian Sacred Icon depicting the Mother of God of Černigov-Gethsemane with the Infant Jesus, both adorned with regal crowns. The work is a refined period chromolithograph applied to a solid thick wooden panel, a technique typical of the renowned Russian manufactories of the 20th century. The metallic gold/bronze background is finely relief-worked with geometric motifs (guilloché effect) to simulate the precious work of metal coverings (riza/oklad). In the side cartouches and at the bottom the sacred monograms and the original inscription in ecclesiastical Slavic identifying the subject (Черниговская) are clearly visible. Decoding of the Sacred Inscriptions: The macro details clearly show the traditional monograms and titles in ecclesiastical Slavic: Left Monogram: MP (Mētēr) written inside a geometric cartouche. Right Monogram: ΘY (Theou), which together with the previous forms the universal title of the Mother of God (Μήτηρ Θεού). Below the right monogram: ІНС. ХС. (Iisus Khristos), the monogram identifying Jesus Christ. Lower inscription: Черниговская Пр. Бцы (Černigovskaja Pr. Bcj). This is the systematic abbreviation of "Черниговская Пресвятая Богородица" which translates as "The Most Holy Mother of God of Černigov". Details and Dimensions: Dimensions: 22 cm (height) x 18 cm (width) x 2 cm (depth). Support: Thick squared wooden panel Era: 20th Century. This specific combination of high-quality chromolithographic printing, combined with embossed metallic backgrounds mounted on thick wooden boards, reached its peak production in Russia in the 20th Century. Condition: Excellent overall as shown in the photo. It displays a beautiful patina of time and slight signs of wear on the outer gilded edges that attest to its authenticity and age, without altering the splendid and sharp color rendering of the faces. Ideal for collectors of Russian art, sacred icons, or as a spiritually and historically appealing decorative object. I would like to note that the first photo of the set was AI-optimized solely to provide an appropriate background, while all subsequent images are original photos taken by me personally, faithfully reproducing the object. Shipping: Careful, tracked and insured.
