Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Important Large Antique Sultanabad Carpet, Central Persia, circa 1880 Size: 14 ft 4 in x 10 ft 9 in (4.37 m x 3.28 m) Provenance: From a distinguished collector A handsome large-format Sultanabad carpet displaying the spacious drawing, expressive floral vocabulary and generous proportions for which nineteenth-century Sultanabad carpets are admired. Woven in the Arak region of central Persia, these carpets transformed classical Persian floral ornament into a broader and more relaxed decorative language. Monumental palmettes, rhythmic vines, and open spacing made Sultanabad carpets particularly well-suited to the expansive rooms of European and American residences. Its desirable dimensions and commanding yet approachable character place this among the more important decorative room-size Persian carpets in the auction.
