INDIAN BRASS BELL WITH HANUMAN

Ca. 19th century AD > An Indian brass bell with flared mouth and stepped shoulder, surmounted by a standing figure identified as Hanuman. The figure forms the handle and stands on a moulded circular platform. Hanuman, the devoted ally of Rama in the Ramayana, embodies loyalty, courage and extraordinary strength. Bells are sounded during Hindu worship to mark ritual action and address the deity; a Hanuman finial brings this devotional association into the implement itself. > > Size: 285mm x 165mm; Weight: 2.84kg > Provenance: Private London Collection; Ex.
