Inuit-style snow goggles - American - 21st century

Anyone who has spent a lot of time outside in the snow knows how important it is to protect one's eyes. The rays of the sun reflected off the white snow can lead to photokeratitis, or “snow blindness,” a very uncomfortable condition caused by excessive exposure to UV light. The Indigenous peoples of the Alaska region were certainly aware of these dangers and created goggles to protect themselves.
