All auctions / Ethnographical / Iron fetters - Ghana (No reserve price)

Description: Forged-iron shackles, composed of four restraint bracelets mounted on a crossbar. Each ring, hand-forged, bears the artisanal workmanship characteristic of traditional West African workshops. This type of object was used by local authorities for the custody and transportation of prisoners or captives. Today it stands as an important testimony to the history of judicial systems and coercive practices in the region. The piece shows a lovely patina of ancient oxidation, uniform, evidencing its age and long use. No visible restoration has been carried out. The signs of wear are consistent with the object's age and use. The object will be carefully packaged and shipped with tracking and insured delivery. Note: this object is offered exclusively as a historical and ethnographic testimony. It is sold for its patrimonial value and in no way constitutes an endorsement of the coercive practices with which it may have been associated. - Support not provided. - I do not know how to date its antiquity.
