Iron (wrought) - Powder container: probably 18th century...

Two old, hand-crafted metal objects from the area of historical muzzle-loading/black powder weapons with accompanying tools and accessories. The first object is a small powder flask with a mechanical spring latch. By pressing back the lever, the outlet opening opens so the powder can be dispensed. After releasing, the latch closes automatically again due to the spring underneath. Notably, this old mechanism still functions well today. Given the relatively small size of the powder container, it could have been intended for a smaller muzzle-loading weapon or pistol. The elongated metal rod belongs to the historical loading equipment. Such rods were used to insert the charge as well as cloth, felt, or other sealing material into the bore and pack it tightly. Particularly interesting is the T-shaped, richly decorated tool. It is likely associated with the ignition process of a historical flintlock/muzzle-loading firearm. To my knowledge, the relevant part of the tool was moved over or against the flint to produce sparks. These ignited a small amount of powder in the ignition area, after which the main charge in the bore was ignited. In addition to their historical function, the pieces are notable for their intricate handmade design. Visible are pierced and engraved ornaments, geometric motifs, concentric circle patterns, and decorative metal inlays. The objects show a patina appropriate to their age, as well as wear and signs of use. The spring mechanism of the powder flask is movable and functional. The photos are part of the condition description.
