Isaac-Joseph Berruyer - Histoire du peuple de Dieu

BERRUYER (Isaac-Joseph). History of the people of God, from the birth of the Messiah to the end of the Synagogue, drawn from the only sacred books; or the sacred text of the books of the New Testament, reduced into a coherent narrative. More exact edition. Second part. Antwerp, by the Associated Booksellers, 1754. 8 volumes in-12 (duodecimo) of 436, 454, 444, 360, 418, 408, 366 and 340 pages. 11x17 cm. Second part of the famous historical paraphrase of the New Testament composed by the Jesuit Isaac-Joseph Berruyer (1681-1758). First published in 1753, this second part provoked lively controversy: condemned by several bishops and by the Holy See, it was disavowed by the author’s superiors, which explains the multiplication of editions under foreign imprint, including this “more exact edition” from Antwerp. The last volume contains Latin dissertations. Titles printed in red and black. Contemporary binding in full mottled calf, spine with raised bands, with labels for the title and the volume number. Condition: headcaps and corners rubbed, some epidermal wear; foxing scattered and small marginal stains.

Estimate:£125.14
