The colours are still particularly bright and vivid. Especially the gorgeous blue and orange tones come out nicely and give the print a fresh and atmospheric appearance. The details of the lobster and the shrimp have been carefully preserved. The fine antennae and the detailed shells of the sea creatures are especially beautifully depicted, allowing their natural shapes and textures to stand out. The artist: Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) was one of the greatest Japanese masters of ukiyo-e (woodblock art). He became world-famous for his innovative depiction of landscapes, weather, and everyday life in Japan. Series: This print is from Hiroshige's renowned series Uo-zukushi (魚尽くし), also known as Every Variety of Fish. The series originated around 1832–1833 and shows various kinds of fish, combined with plants, herbs and often kyōka poems. The series was originally created as an illustrated poetry album for a group of poets and was later also issued as individual prints. In total, about 20 designs are counted in this series.
