Italian school (XVII) - Trionfo di frutta, natura morta

ANCIENT STILL LIFE WITH FRUIT, FLOWERS AND BRANCHES Important painting depicting a refined still life in a classical setup, characterized by a rich and highly scenographic composition. The work presents an elegant ensemble of citrus fruits, grapes, flowers, and vegetative elements, arranged on a wooden panel and immersed in a deliberately dark background. The contrast between the warm hues of the fruit – oranges, ochres, yellows, and browns – and the deep background gives the composition notable visual intensity. Particularly interesting is the lighting construction: the light seems to emerge directly from the darkness, focusing on the fruit and creating a suggestive relief effect. The rendering of the grape clusters, the citrus fruits, and the vegetative details preserves a marked tactile, material quality, while the dark background accentuates the gathered and teatral character of the whole. The work fully fits within the European tradition of the old master still life, a genre especially valued for its ability to combine decorative value, study of nature, and luminous exploration. Of particular interest is also the wooden structure and the antique frame, which contribute to the overall reading of the work as an antique artifact and increase its collectible charm. The painting shows evident signs of time and of its conservation history, visible in the surface and in the structure. Sec XVII 1600 -1700 ca Oil on canvas 50.5 cm x 40.5 cm Old hanging hook.
