Ancient painting, oil on canvas - apparition of the Virgin Mary with a devoted worshipper - 18th/19th century. A fascinating and suggestive antique painting, oil on canvas, depicting a scene of profound popular devotion: the apparition of the Virgin Mary, splendidly wrapped in a pure white robe and crowned, turning with a gesture of welcome and grace toward a Faithful kneeling in prayer. At the bottom right a sickle can be seen, a detail that could relate the scene to a rural miracle or to iconography linked to the agricultural world. The work stands out for the intense expressiveness of the faces, as visible in the close-up details of the Madonna’s face and the gaze full of astonishment and faith of the devotee. The painting presents itself in its original state and exudes all the charm of the time. It features a widespread and fascinating craquelure consistent with the age of the work; the frame is not present, which allows us to appreciate the work in its total authenticity.
