All auctions / Miscellaneous / Italian school (XVIII) - Transito di San Giuseppe - NO RESERVE
Oil painting on panel depicting a sketch probably for a painting for a church (since wall measurements are marked) Italy, 18th century Good condition with signs of wear related to age Panel size 38.7 x 27.5 cm Size with frame 49.5 x 34.5 cm The scene shows Saint Joseph lying on his deathbed, attended by the Virgin Mary in prayer and Jesus in red and blue robes, while above a group of angels and cherubs descends from heaven amid light and clouds. The style appears coherent with devotional Baroque-inspired painting, plausibly attributable to an Italian-born artist from the 17th–18th century Shipping with traceable courier.
