All auctions / Miscellaneous / Italian school (XX) - Memento Mori

Beautiful pair of paintings titled "Memento Mori", created in the 20th century, originating from ecclesiastical environments of Salento (Southern Italy). They are oil paintings on wooden panels, set inside elegant wooden frames with metal friezes. They are certainly parts of a piece of furniture or a larger structure; in fact, at the bottom both are missing a piece of the frame where they would interlock. They can be hung on the wall or leaned on a surface. They are not signed. In the first painting, a skull is depicted on the left and a candle on the right; in the second painting, on the left an hourglass and on the right a skull. They are all symbols reminding humanity of the brevity of life and its inevitable end. The quality of the paintings is very high, as you can see from the photos. Attention, the works show the inevitable signs of time, small scratches and dings, but there is no serious damage that would ruin their beauty. Fast and secure shipping.
