Italian School (XX) - Roma '70

- Oil on spatula over canvas. Original canvas. Signed. - Light up a Nazionali without filter and hurry that ristretto before it cools, because this is the true Rome of 1970, the one that doesn’t appear in the postcards of clueless tourists. Look at the canvas: Piazza Navona weighed down under a leaden, greasy sky, where the smoke from engines and centuries of soot have stained the façades a dark ochre, almost black, as if the very Baroque palaces were smoking two packs a day. Here the streets are not for strolling; they are a wild orchestra pit where the roar of Fiat 500s and Vespa motorcycles locked in perpetual combat drowns out the murmurs of the usual suspects. Along the sidewalks march gentlemen with sallow complexions and well-tatched tweed, quickening their steps with their coats flared to avoid getting muddy from the rain, crossing those stunning Italian women with jet-black hair, dark glasses even in the fog, and fur coats that take any mortal with blood in their veins’ breath away. It is the theater of historical engagement, the perfect blend of sacristy, leaded gasoline, political cynicism, and unbearable beauty; the painting does not capture a landscape, it captured the feverish pulse of an eternal city that consumes itself amid the smell of burnt coffee, the threat of a bombing, and the eternal promise of a sunset romance. - Image dimensions without frame: 71 x 50 cm / 86 x 65 cm with exclusive custom frame. Certain lots, due to their age and value, require an export permit granted by the Ministry of Culture. Although it is an administrative procedure, it is essential to ensure the authenticity of the work and its free movement internationally. Montbaron Gallery undertakes to offer its clients original, unique, and irrepeatable artworks, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of each piece in our collection. To ensure transparency and trust in every purchase, we offer a digital Certificate of Guarantee, signed by a certified art historian. This certificate confirms that the acquired work has been authenticated by our specialists, who verify its authorship, origin, and condition. The Certificate of Guarantee includes complete details about the piece, such as author, creation date, technique used, and dimensions. The digital Certificate of Guarantee will be issued at the client’s request, providing an official reference for the piece purchased. This document will be sent in digital format and will be signed by an art historian from our gallery, ensuring its validity and support. Our goal is to offer the best possible service, tailoring to each client's needs and ensuring the work reaches its destination quickly and safely, with no surprises.
