Italy - Campania // Naples /Torrione del Carmine...

Splendid coastal view and panorama of Naples captured from the ancient Tower of the Carmine. The composition shows the gulf animated by sailing boats, the eighteenth-century urban profile of the city climbing the hills and, in the foreground on the left, the majestic fortifications of the tower with figures in period costumes. The shot opens with the imposing profile of the Tower of the Carmine, part of the historic fortifications of Naples, at whose feet pedestrians and fishermen move. The viewer's gaze is guided along the coastline of the gulf until it loses itself among the architectures, churches and palaces of the city that slope down toward the sea. The color palette favors delicate and pastel tones in the skies and in the reflections of the water (characteristic blues, pinks and greens of Augusta's shops), while livelier accents of red define the clothes of the figures. The bilingual text (French and German) and the mirror-like title on the right margin complete the typical apparatus of this collectible genre. Engraver / Publisher: Balthasar Friedrich Leizelt (B. F. Leizelt sculps.) / Printed in Augsburg at the "Academie Imperiale d’Empire des Arts liberaux" (se findent dans l'Academie Imperiale... à Augsbourg). Very good. The contemporary watercolor coloring is well preserved, sharp and free from significant fading. The sheet retains its wide original white margins beyond the copper-plate imprint. Very slight and natural foxing/yellowing of the paper concentrate on the outer edges, which do not affect the engraved part and guarantee its absolute authenticity. White back.
