J. de Vries (XX) - Portret van een man met gele tulband

Small, briskly painted portrait of a man with a beard and mustache, facing front and with a downcast gaze. The vividly colored turban and the red garments stand out strongly against the subdued brown-gray background. The painter built up the face in broad, visible brushstrokes, with impasto paint in the turban and around the eyes. Signed to the left of center "J. de Vries", with an underline. The reverse also carries this name. We have not been able to link the signature to a specific artist and therefore offer the work as "signed J. de Vries", without attribution.
