Set of 2 French medical works from the early 19th century, devoted to practical medicine, anatomy and pathological physiology. A set particularly interesting for the presence of an original edition with a manuscript inscription from the author. 1. J. Sablairoles — Recherches d’anatomie et de physiologie pathologiques relatives à la prédominance et à l’influence des organes digestifs des enfans sur le cerveau. Paris, Gabon et Cie / Montpellier, Sevalle, 1826. Original edition. Memoir awarded by the Royal Society of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy of Toulouse. XX + 311 pages. An especially interesting copy containing a manuscript inscription from the author to one of his colleagues, beginning with the words: “Offert par l’auteur à son très honoré collègue…”, followed by a formal tribute. The recipient’s name is intentionally not interpreted in order to avoid erroneous attribution. Work devoted notably to the relationships between the digestive organs and the brain in children, with observations concerning various pediatric pathologies. The 1826 original edition is confirmed by bibliographic references. 2. J.-L.-M. Ménard — Élémens de médecine-pratique, suivis de l’Éloge de M. F.-X. Bichat. Montpellier, imprimerie de J.-G. Tournel, 1819. Original edition of the work, including notably the important eulogy dedicated to Xavier Bichat, a major figure in French anatomy and medicine. 382 pages, the last photographed page bearing clearly the inscription “FIN.” The two volumes feature later uniform bindings in green half-leather, with gilt-titled spines and blue boards. Condition: the set is well preserved. Internals generally fresh for works over two centuries old, with some foxing, stains and occasional marks visible in the photographs. The old manuscript inscription of Sablairoles is well preserved.
