Last page with a vague water stain, otherwise reasonably good copy, complete. Some 17th-century standalone edition. The last, unfinished work of the mystical theosophist and philosopher Jacob Böhme (1575-1624). Shortly before his death he began a commentary on his theosophical teaching. Most of the 177 questions that were put to him he had to leave unanswered. The Lutheran authorities in Germany blocked the dissemination of Böhme’s writings. In Amsterdam, at the time the center of religious tolerance, nonconformist writings could be printed. Henricus Betkius was a leading publisher of spiritual and alchemical works. Today his editions are all extremely rare. The same goes for 17th-century Böhme editions. The edition offered here of ‘Contemplation of Divine Revelation’, a key work in Böhme’s corpus, is currently even more difficult to find.
