JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - Vercingetorix - Lot 17

JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - Vercingetorix JACQUES MARTIN Alix - Vercingetorix. Casterman, 1985. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color. Eighteenth album in the legendary Alix historical series, created by Jacques Martin. This opus plunges the reader into the heart of Gaulish national drama: the fate of Vercingetorix after his surrender at Alesia. Held prisoner in Rome awaiting Julius Caesar's triumph, the Arverne leader becomes the focus of fierce political struggles. Alix finds himself torn between his Gaulish origins and his loyalty to his adopted Roman father. Jacques Martin delivers one of the saga's most tragic and intimate scenarios, exploring notions of betrayal, memory and freedom. The Ligne Claire drawing, of remarkable academic purity, magnifies the reconstructions of Roman prisons and besieged strongholds under a sky of fire. Justification page : © Casterman 1985. On the second plate: the "Déjà parus" title list adopts a modernized presentation in dense paragraphs within the white box. It stops precisely at the title L'Empereur de Chine for the Alix series (making this copy the original edition, as the present title is not yet listed in the catalog), at the title La Crypte for the Lefranc series, and at the title La Cathédrale for the Jhen series. Bar code at lower right. Copy in good condition. Solid original boards. First cover remains fresh and bright, with a lively scene of Vercingetorix haranguing his warriors from the snowy heights. Very slight wear to corners. Inside clean, sound and complete, with no erasures or tears. A very fine copy of this original 1985 edition. A peak of dramatic and political maturity in Jacques Martin's work.
