Jade - Jadeite Pendant – Double-Sided Carved Landscape –...

A large, hand-carved jadeite jade pendant certified by NGTC as natural Type A jadeite, meaning it is untreated: no bleaching, no polymer impregnation and no dyeing. The piece is carved on both sides with a traditional Chinese landscape scene. The front shows pavilion rooftops nestled among layered rocks, trees with richly textured foliage, and terraces leading down towards the base. Fine openwork details and crisp linework give the scene a sense of depth and distance. The reverse continues the landscape in a lighter, more open composition of trees and rocky slopes. The two sides read like a pair of miniature paintings in stone. The colour is what sets this piece apart. A soft lavender body, as stated on the certificate (light green and light purple), is lit by patches of vivid apple green on both faces. The carver has placed these green areas within the scene, where they bring the foliage and rocks to life. Gentle natural tonal variations run through the stone and add to its character. The plaque shape has a softly arched top and curved base. It is substantial in size and presence, making it a striking statement pendant and a fine piece for a collector of Chinese hardstone carving.
