The film Raging Bull with Robert De Niro is based on the life of Jake LaMotta. World middleweight champion from 1949 to 1951 after having defeated champion Marcel Cerdan, he absorbed the most violent blows without flinching, hence his nickname of "Raging Bull" (enraged bull). He had brutal clashes with Sugar Ray Robinson, notably the famous "St. Valentine’s Day Massacre" which took place in Chicago. Jake LaMotta passed away in 2017 at the age of 95.
