JAPAN. 1 Shu Gin. 1859-1868. - Value: 1 Shu Gin. - Year: 1859-1868. - Inscriptions: Obverse: Japanese characters 一朱銀 arranged vertically within a rectangular frame with a pearl-edged border. Reverse: repetitive stamping with official marks of the shogunate's control. - Grade: MS62 (GBCA). Rectangular silver coin corresponding to the traditional Japanese monetary system of the late Edo period, known as Isshu Gin. It features a sober, calligraphic-style design, with clearly defined characters and uniform relief, typical of Japanese hand-struck minting. The fields retain a visible metallic luster with a light, homogeneous silver patina, showing slight contact marks in keeping with its conservation state. An attractive, well-centered exemplar, representative of the small fiduciary denominations used in everyday commerce before the Meiji Restoration.
