Japy Frères Paris a decorative cast-brass carriage clock the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with a repeat button to sound the last hour at will, with typical Japy single-finned movement pillars and stamped to the backplate with the Japy Frères mark including the award of the Grande Medaille d'Honneur at the 1855 Exposition, along with the serial number 284, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, blued-steel moon hands and a subsidiary alarm setting dial, the cast-brass case having decorative foliate and grape swags and with a matching cast handle, height 17cm/14cm, handle up/down. Note: Japy Frères et Cie were originally set up in circa 1771 in Beaucourt by Frederic Japy, born 1749 for the purpose of making ebauches (blanks) for watch movements. By 1810, Frederic Japy's sons Frederic-Guillaume Japy, Louis-Frederic Japy and Jean-Pierre Japy had joined the firm and renamed the firm Japy Frères et Cie following the death of their father in 1812.
