Beautiful, authentic Dutch smothering pot from the 19th century. This atmospheric antique piece is made of red copper and features a contrasting brass lid and sturdy brass claw feet. A notable detail is the original porcelain (or earthenware) knob on the lid, decorated with a classic blue floral motif. In the past, a smothering pot was used to smother glowing coal or turf so that it could be reused later. Today it is a beautiful and decorative object for a country or classical interior, for example beside the fireplace, as a storage piece, or as a unique planter. Specifications & Details: Material: red copper, brass (yellow copper), porcelain/earthenware Period: 19th century (ca. 1850–1890) Origin: Netherlands Condition: In good, used antique condition with a beautifully authentic patina that enhances the character of the piece. The lid closes well and the porcelain knob is fully intact. See the photos for an accurate personal impression of the details. The smothering pot is packed and shipped very carefully and professionally and sent by registered/insured mail with track & trace.
