Jardinière - Art Nouveau with rosette band and drop motifs on claw feet, patinated • early 20th century - Brass Large Art Nouveau jardinière made of brass, on three claw feet, with a band of rosettes and drop motifs in relief. The rosettes are surrounded by leaves, the lines are hand-finished. The dark patina lies over gold-toned surfaces and gives the piece depth. As a cachepot on a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or floor, it immediately draws the eye. Around the upper edge runs a wide band with rosettes, each enclosed by a wreath of leaves. Below, on the body, hang drop-shaped motifs with scroll lines and knoppe. The relief is pressed and finished with fine lines. Three cast claw feet on shield-shaped plates carry the body. The base is flat and lime-gray. The weight of 835 grams corresponds to thin sheet metal. About the maker: Pressed brass jardinières in Art Nouveau emerged around 1900 from English and French workshops; in the Midlands, for example Beldray in Wolverhampton and J.
