Large antique brass jardinière / cache-pot in the Mamluk Revival style with animal figures and calligraphy – Egypt/Syria, ca. 1900 A very fine and monumental antique brass jardinière (outer pot/cache-pot) in the characteristic Mamluk Revival style, dating from the late 19th century or the early start of the 20th century (ca. 1900). This handmade object originates from the Middle East, most likely produced in a specialized workshop in Cairo (Egypt) or Damascus (Syria). The pot is distinguished by its substantial size and the rich, detailed decoration divided into two broad registers: Top register: A beautifully conceived repoussé relief in which various animal figures (including camels/elephants) and human figures are depicted among floral motifs. Bottom register: Large, deeply serrated cartouches with elegant Arabic calligraphy (or pseudo-calligraphy), surrounded by fine engraving and geometric patterns. The base is traditionally set by hand and soldered. The interior and base show a wonderful, time-built organic patina layer with authentic oxidation spots and lime residues, confirming the long use and historical integrity of this piece. An impressive and heavy decorative item that fits perfectly in both a classic, Oriental and eclectic modern interior. Specifications: Style: Mamluk Revival / Islamic art / Egyptian Revival Material: Brass (yellow copper) Dating: ca. 1890 - 1920 Origin: Middle East (Egypt / Syria) Height: ca. 27 cm Opening diameter (top rim): ca. 26 cm Maximum diameter (widest part): ca. 34 - 35 cm Condition: In good, well-preserved antique condition with a beautiful original patina and normal signs of age in line with its age (see photos for your own precise impression). No modern restorations or polishing have been carried out.
