2 engravings on a single sheet, a copperplate print on laid paper with a watermark, signed and dated, good plate impression. Support: laid paper with watermark "mount surmounted by a cross" and letters "S" and "I"; State: excellent black-and-white inking, good preservation with slight traces of foxing and browning as in the photos; Insured shipping via Bartolini/DPD courier. To use the insurance coverage, any damage to the package must be contested and reported to the courier at the time of delivery. Most of the compositions are inspired by masters of Italian and French painting, including Hubert Robert and Jean-Honoré Fragonard. This is a collection of particular importance for the history of engraving: as Gordon Ray states, "no other place has so many of those who could be called aquatint incunabula, dating from the late 1760s to early 1770s, between two covers".
