Born in Spokane, Washington, he studied at Fort Wright College and the Pratt Institute in New York, where he subsequently established his artistic career. Working across sculpture, installation, drawing, collage and mixed media, Hodges transforms humble materials into evocative expressions of human experience. His practice frequently incorporates everyday objects and fragile materials, including artificial flowers, fabric, mirrors, chains and found imagery creating organic forms that suggest both natural beauty and impermanence. His use of reflective surfaces and delicate construction often invites viewers to consider their own relationship with the work and the surrounding space. Hodges’s art is characterised by an apparent simplicity that conceals considerable emotional depth. Flowers, in particular, function as recurring symbols of affection, remembrance and the fleeting nature of existence. His works can evoke both celebration and mourning, balancing decorative appeal with an underlying awareness of vulnerability and loss. Through careful arrangement and transformation, Hodges communicates complex emotional and philosophical ideas, encouraging contemplation of the connections between beauty, fragility and the human condition.
