"Delphinus, Ein ander art Delphin" presents a fascinating historical zoological and cetological study showcasing various interpretations of dolphins and mythical sea creatures on a single sheet. The multi-figure composition displays several rendering styles of marine life, including a prominent horned sea monster or narwhal-like creature at the top, followed by several stylized variations of dolphins (some showing blowholes emitting water or vapor), alongside two circular inset details featuring classical or symbolic motifs. Joannes Jonstonus was a celebrated Polish physician, scholar, and natural historian who published encyclopedic scientific treatises detailing the animal kingdom during the seventeenth century. Artist or Maker: Joannes Jonstonus, Matthäus Merian. Dimensions: Approximately 34 cm x 22 cm. Medium: Engraving. Date: 1650.
