John Day, Wakefield, an oak longcase clock the eight-day duration movement having an anchor escapement and striking the hours on a bell, the twelve-inch brass break-arch dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and Arabic five-minute outer numerals, the engraved dial centre having a date aperture, with cast-brass c-scroll spandrels to the four corners and blued-steel hands, with a round brass boss to the arch engraved with the maker's name John Day, Wakefield, the oak case having turned pillars to the hood, fluted canted corners to the trunk, and surmounted by a shaped cresting with a central brass ball and spire finial, all standing on bracket feet, height 223cm. Notes: John Day is recorded as working in Wakefield by 1770 having been apprenticed to John Holroyd in 1742. He died in 1801 with his will leaving a sum of £850 to his five daughters and brother William.
