The Tryal of John Hampden, Esq; (of Stoke-Mandeville in the County of Bucks) in the Great Case of Ship-Money, between His Majesty K. Charles I. and that Gentleman. Wherein are inserted, the whole Record in Latin and English; the several Arguments of Council learned in the Law, on both Sides; with the Opinions of all the Judges on the Bench in the Exchequer-Chamber, &c. As also Mr. St. John's Speech in the House of Lords, Jan. 7. 1640, concerning Ship-Money. With Mr. Waller's Speech to the House of Commons, April 22, 1640, and his Speech at a Conference of both Houses, July 6, 1641, against Mr. Justice Crawley. To which is added, the Tryal of Thomas Harrison, Clerk, for Words spoken against Mr. Justice Hutton. The whole being printed from authentick manuscripts. London: printed for D. Browne, W. Mears, F. Clay, without Temple-Bar; J. Sackfeild, in Lincoln's-Inn-Square; B. Creake, at the Bible in Jermyn-street; and J. Peele, at Locke's Head within Temple-Bar, 1719. Grand in-folio, imprimé au même format que la collection des State-Tryals (4 volumes in-folio), comme l'explique la préface. Bandeaux et lettrines gravés. Le procès de John Hampden (1637-1638), qui refusa de payer l'impôt du « ship-money » exigé par Charles Ier, est l'un des grands procès de l'histoire constitutionnelle anglaise et un prélude à la guerre civile. Provenance : bibliothèque familiale (succession). État : reliure d'époque plein cuir en mauvais état. Cuir largement manquant sur le plat arrière, cuir du plat avant soulevé, dos très usé, coins abîmés. Intérieur : mouillures anciennes dans les marges (page de titre et préface), rousseurs et taches du temps. Texte bien lisible. Non restauré : idéal pour une restauration ou une nouvelle reliure. Expédition : Colissimo suivi et assuré, livre protégé sous film à bulles dans un carton rigide.
