John Smallwood, Lichfield, an oak longcase clock the eight-day duration movement having an anchor escapement and striking the hours on a bell, the twelve-inch square brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, Arabic five-minute outer numerals, fleur-de-lys half-hour markings and engraved either side of VI o'clock for the maker John Smallwood, Lichfield, the matted dial centre having a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture with engraved surround, with cast-brass female-head spandrels to the four corners and blued-steel hands, the oak case having three-quarter columns to the hood and surmounted by a shaped cresting, height 200cm. Notes: John Smallwood is recorded as working in Lichfield, Staffordshire, from 1711 until his sale of complete stock in 1741.
