This copy is numbered 158 in the in-8 soleil format - Magnificent binding signed - This work dedicated to the historic heart of Paris and more particularly to the surroundings of Notre-Dame, which Joris-Karl Huysmans, major writer of French naturalism and later decadence, observes with a gaze that is at once erudite, aesthetic, religious and deeply personal - The book is part of Huysmans’ fascination with old Paris, its churches, its monuments, its ancient streets, its popular districts and the material traces of the past that the modernization of the capital tends to erase - Through the description of the Notre-Dame quarter, the author does not merely seek to provide an architectural or historical guide, but rather composes a true literary stroll in which stones, religious edifices, streets and historical memories become the supports for a meditation on time, faith, art and the transformation of the city - Joris-Karl Huÿsmans / Ch.
