Joseph Alfred Terry (1872-1939) - Retrato de mujer con...

Impressive and monumental oil painting by the renowned British painter and portraitist Joseph Alfred Terry (1872–1939). The work presents a sober and expressive figurative portrait at nearly life size of a woman wearing traditional attire. The figure wears a terracotta-toned shawl over a white blouse with underskirts and a skirt with broad ochre pleats, crowned by a brimmed hat. In the background composition, two key iconographic details of the interior scene are visible: a painting with a religious image and a niche or window opening toward the outdoor landscape. Technical and Stylistic Analysis: Thanks to its large format of over one meter in height, the piece unleashes a tremendous synthetic force. Terry demonstrates his refined academic training (trained at the Académie Julian in Paris and in Yorkshire) through a solid structuring of color planes, a bold drawing, and a palette of warm, earthy tones of great serenity. About the Artist: Joseph Alfred Terry was a prominent member of the British art scene, known for his regional portraits and figurative scenes captured during his travels across Europe and South America. His works are part of private collections and institutions in the United Kingdom. Dimensions: 101 x 74 cm THE WORK IS SHIPPED IN A PROTECTIVE TUBE WITHOUT STRETCHER OR FRAME
